The GEP - European Heritage Days, the largest and most popular cultural event in Europe, return on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September. In these days dedicated to the theme: “Heritage on the way”, the Pantheon and its staff offer an exclusive guided tour dedicated to the monument and its relationship with the Campus Martius and the city of Rome, following the traces of the history of a material and immaterial heritage that has remained almost unchanged over time. The Pantheon, a temple dedicated to all Gods, is one of the best preserved buildings of antiquity, thanks to its transformation into a Christian church in 609 AD. Both the exterior and interior of the monument tell a story of almost 2000 years, and the pronao, the columns, the polychrome marbles of the interior as well as the spectacular dome are unparalleled testimonies to the magnificence of Imperial Rome, at its height during Hadrian's principate, when the current Pantheon was completed. In a tour lasting about an hour, guided by an assistant of the Ministry of Culture, we will have the opportunity to appreciate the relationship between the monument and the city's topography, following the highlights of the ancient temple's history, from its foundation to its final transformation into a place of Christian worship.
